How often should I follow my routine?

The honest answer: it depends on your hair. Wash-day frequency, treatment intervals, and styling routines vary widely by hair type, porosity, lifestyle, and current condition. Your Rituala routine specifies your exact frequencies — but here's the framework so the recommendations make sense.

Wash-day frequency

This is the question Rituala answers most precisely. General patterns:

  • Straight, fine hair (1A–1C): Often every 1–2 days. Sebum travels down straight strands quickly, so roots get oily fast.

  • Wavy hair (2A–2C): Usually every 2–4 days. Balance between cleansing and protecting your wave pattern.

  • Curly hair (3A–3C): Often once a week, sometimes twice. Curls dry out fast, so less frequent washing protects moisture.

  • Coily hair (4A–4C): Typically every 7–10 days, sometimes longer. Co-washing or rinsing in between is common.

Lifestyle moves these — heavy workouts, swimming, working outdoors, oily scalps, or scalp conditions can all change frequency.

Daily upkeep (between washes)

Most routines include at least one daily or every-other-day step:

  • Refresh — water + leave-in to revive curls and waves

  • Scalp care — light scalp oils, serums, or treatments depending on your scalp profile

  • Protection — silk/satin sleeping setup, gentle handling, low-manipulation styles

Weekly add-ons

Most people get value from one weekly extra:

  • Deep conditioning — usually weekly for curly/coily, every 2 weeks for wavy/straight

  • Clarifying or scalp scrub — every 2–4 weeks if you use lots of styling products or live in hard-water areas

Monthly or as-needed

  • Protein treatments — typically every 4–6 weeks for damaged or coloured hair, less often for healthy hair

  • Bond repair — for chemically processed hair, often every 4–8 weeks

The "follow it for a month" rule

Hair turnover is slow. Even if a routine is right, you usually need 2–4 weeks of consistency to see real change. Don't switch things up after 3 days because nothing shifted yet.

Your routine has the exact frequencies for your hair. If anything feels too much or too little, ask Rituala or retake the quiz.
