Ask Rituala chat isn't responding or showing errors

Troubleshooting steps for when Ask Rituala (the AI chat) isn't responding, throws errors, gives generic answers, or won't load at all.

Written by Support

If Ask Rituala isn't responding, is showing an error, or is giving weird answers, here's how to troubleshoot.

Ask Rituala isn't responding at all

  1. Wait 10–20 seconds. Complex questions sometimes take a moment to process. The chat will show a loading state.

  2. Check your internet connection. Ask Rituala needs a live connection to respond.

  3. Refresh the page. A stuck connection can usually be reset.

  4. Sign out and back in. If your session has expired, the chat may silently fail.

  5. Try a different browser or device. Rules out local issues.

You're seeing an error message

Ask Rituala now categorizes failures so you get a clear message and, when it makes sense, a one-click Try again button. Common error categories and what they mean:

  • Network — your connection dropped or timed out before reaching us. Check your internet and tap Try again.

  • AI (e.g. AI_TIMEOUT, AI_STREAM_ERROR, AI_EMPTY_RESPONSE) — the AI provider had a hiccup mid-response. Usually transient; tap Try again.

  • Server — something on our side went wrong. Tap Try again; if it keeps failing, message support.

  • Rate limited — you've sent a lot of messages quickly. Wait a minute, then continue.

  • Chat limit reached — you've used your plan's monthly allowance (see limits below). Wait for the reset or upgrade.

  • Auth / Session expired — sign out and back in.

  • Validation — the message couldn't be processed (often empty or too long). Edit your question and resend.

Sending us a reference ID

Every error now includes a short reference ID (also known as a request ID) displayed under the error message. If you contact support about a failed chat, include that reference ID and we can pull the exact request from our logs — it usually saves a round trip of back-and-forth.

The chat responds, but answers are weird or generic

  • Be more specific in your question. "My hair is dry" gets a generic answer. "My hair is dry on the ends, after switching to a sulfate-free shampoo two weeks ago" gives the chat enough to work with.

  • Make sure your hair profile is current. If your routine is months old and your hair has changed, the chat is reasoning over outdated info. Retake the quiz.

  • Try rephrasing. Sometimes a slight rewording gets a much better answer.

  • Push back. "That doesn't apply to me because…" usually gets the chat to give a better answer.

The chat gave wrong information

Ask Rituala is good but not perfect. If you spot something genuinely wrong:

  • Reply telling it what's wrong — sometimes that surfaces a better answer in the same conversation.

  • If it's a serious issue (e.g., the chat recommended something that contradicts your stated allergies), please report it. Email [email protected] with a screenshot.

The chat won't load at all

If Ask Rituala doesn't appear in the interface where it should be:

  • Check whether you're signed in

  • Check whether you've reached your plan's message limit — Free accounts get 10 messages total, Journey Monthly and Journey Annual get 100 messages per month, and the legacy Starter plan gets 30 messages total

  • Disable browser extensions and try again

  • Message support if it persists

If Ask Rituala isn't working and you need an answer urgently, email [email protected] with your reference ID — a real human will get back to you.
